Ingredients in the Vegan Eggnog Protein Smoothie

Protein Powder:

To make this dairy-free eggnog smoothie, use a plant-based protein powder. I use orgain vanilla bean organic protein. Make sure you use a vanilla-flavored protein powder.

Medjool Dates:

In this recipe, Medjool dates are used as a sweetener. They have a sweet caramel flavor and are a healthy alternative to processed sugar. Be sure to use Medjool dates in this recipe. They are softer and easier to blend into a drink. Medjool dates are packed full of potassium, B vitamins, pantothenic acid, folate, and niacin. Long story short, these things are natural energy boosters and can help fight off fatigue!

Plant Milk:

Traditional eggnog is very thick and creamy. Choosing creamy plant milk will help enhance the flavor and texture. Coconut milk or oat milk is the perfect choice for this recipe. However, If you don’t have those, any vanilla or unflavoured plant milk will do.

Vanilla Extract used in the Vegan Eggnog Protein Smoothie:

This dairy-free eggnog Protein Smoothie recipe calls for only 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract. It may seem so small that it’s tempting to skip it. But don’t skip this ingredient! A little bit adds a lot of flavors. Vanilla is one of the key ingredients in eggnog.

Peanut Butter used in the Vegan Eggnog Protein Smoothie:

It may seem strange to have peanut butter in eggnog. But this ingredient adds an element of fat and makes the smoothie thicker and creamier. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla disguise the flavor of the peanut butter.

Is Eggnog Vegan?

Eggnog is not traditionally vegan as it contains both eggs and dairy. The original eggnog recipe is comprised of egg yolks, heavy whipping cream, sugar, milk, nutmeg, vanilla, and cinnamon. Eggnog can also be served as a cocktail by adding bourbon or rum.

Where Did Egg Nog Come From?

Eggnog’s precise ancestry is unknown, but it was invented in England many years ago. It was once a wintertime beverage for the British aristocracy, according to a food blog by Babson College food history professor Frederick Douglass Opie (which now appears to be inactive).
