Throw leftovers in a sandwich or reheat them in the air fryer for a quick high-protein vegan snack. The blend of dried herbs on this is just a starting place. Get creative with the spices and see what you can come up with. I’m thinking of trying an Indian-inspired version next!

Ingredients

  • 1 brick extra firm tofu
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp hot chili powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp herbes de Provence (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1/8 cup oat flour (or quinoa flour)

Instructions

  • Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Press the tofu
  • Cut the tofu into 9 equal pieces
  • In a bowl, mix together all the dry ingredients.
  • In a separate bowl, add the olive oil.
  • Now, we're ready to turn these tofu slices from drab to fab by coating them in the herb crusted mixture! First, dip a tofu steak in olive oil to lightly coat it. Next, coat in the dry mixture and place it directly on a non-stick baking sheet. Repeat this task with all 9 steaks.
  • Throw them in the oven, and wait for those babies to get nice and crispy. Set the timer for 15 minutes and flip the tofu steaks. Place them back in the oven and bake for another 15-20 minutes.
  • Eat them as is, or top them with your favourite sauce. BBQ sauce, tahini garlic sauce, or vegan gravy are some of my favourites. These herb crusted tofu steaks are the perfect vegan protein with a holiday meal or are great any day served with mashed potatoes and veggies. Serve and enjoy!
